Verified recovery and realized financial value
Objective. Define verified recovery and realized financial value, show the evidence step that separates them from opportunity, and keep recovered capacity distinct from cash.
A dictionary entry. Verified recovery is capacity or value that has been acted on and confirmed with evidence; realized financial value is the cash portion of that, once converted. Both sit at the end of the recovery chain, after opportunity.
What it is
Verified recovery is the part of a recoverable opportunity (MET-20) that has actually been acted on and confirmed with evidence - a finding taken from Open through action to a measured, checked result. Realized financial value is the cash portion of that verified recovery, once released capacity has genuinely been converted to money (cost avoided, cash collected, headcount not added). The distinction is the whole point of the recovery screen: it separates what could be recovered from what has been recovered, and recovered capacity from cash recovered.
How it is calculated
At app-logic level, a finding moves through states (for example Open to Verified) with an owner, an action and a measurement; verified recovery is the value of findings that reached the verified state with evidence against a baseline. Realized financial value is the subset that has been converted to cash, which requires an explicit conversion the customer owns. Included: findings with a baseline, an action, a measurement and verification. Excluded: unverified opportunity, and capacity that has not been converted to cash. The state model, the evidence standard for verification, and the capacity-to-cash conversion are configurable and customer-owned - confirm with product. Never present capacity value as realized cash.
How to read it and the common misread
Read verified recovery as the trustworthy number in the value story - it carries evidence - and read realized financial value as the narrower, cash-converted subset. The healthy signals are verified recovery with evidence, good owner coverage and a short time to verification. The common misread is the capacity-versus-cash confusion: treating recovered capacity as cash, or treating an opportunity (recoverable capacity) as if it were verified recovery. A projection and a recovered result are not the same, and released capacity is only cash after a conversion the customer validates. Quote verified, evidenced figures in a business review, not opportunity.
Where it appears
In Value Leakage: the recovery screen and reports, where findings are tracked from baseline through action and measurement to verification, and where recovered capacity is shown distinctly from cash recovered. This is the figure a CSM brings to a QBR. Demo figures and sample amounts are seeded illustrations.
Interpretation check
Verified recovery is evidenced and acted on; realized financial value is only the cash-converted subset. Recoverable capacity (opportunity) and recovered capacity are not cash until a customer-owned conversion is validated.
In the field
In a value review for a large RCM customer, the credible story is the verified, evidenced recovery with named owners - not the full opportunity figure - and any cash claim is stated only where the customer has validated the conversion from released capacity to money.
Practical task
In the Value Leakage demo, trace one finding through to the recovery screen and write down its verified recovery and whether any of it is shown as cash recovered, then draft the one sentence you would use in a QBR that keeps capacity and cash honestly separate.
Self-check
What distinguishes verified recovery from recoverable capacity?
Recoverable capacity is an opportunity estimate; verified recovery is value that has been acted on and confirmed with evidence against a baseline. Only the latter carries proof.
What is realized financial value relative to verified recovery?
It is the cash-converted subset of verified recovery - released capacity that has genuinely become money through a conversion the customer owns. Not all verified recovery is cash.
Which figure do you take to a QBR, and why?
Verified recovery with evidence (and realized cash where converted), because it is proven against a baseline. Presenting opportunity as if it were recovered result is a critical misread.
What must be customer-owned and confirmed with product here?
The verification evidence standard, the state model, and especially the capacity-to-cash conversion - these are configurable and the cash claim depends on the customer validating them.
Verified vs demo. The demo shows the recovery states and sample amounts on seeded data. A customer's verified recovery and realized cash depend on their evidence standard and their own capacity-to-cash conversion, which must be validated in their instance.
