Real-Time Adherence: Work and output adherence

Objective. Read the two layers above schedule adherence - is scheduled time becoming work, and is that work meeting standard - and keep them clearly distinct from presence and from each other.

Work and output adherence answers the question most adherence tools cannot: 'is the planned, present time actually producing enough work at standard?' - the layers that separate a busy agent from one who is merely present.

What this screen answers

The customer question is: beyond being on-schedule, is that scheduled time being spent on work (work adherence), and is the work meeting the expected output standard for the interval (output adherence)? A Sales person uses this as the differentiator in a displacement deal - the incumbent proves presence; this proves presence turned into work at standard. A CSM uses it to redirect coaching away from policing logins and toward protecting delivery.

The task

Scope to the team and interval and read the three layers as a sequence: schedule first, then work, then output. The move that lands is finding an agent or team green on schedule but below on work or output - that is where the real conversation is. Drill to Live adherence for the individual and to the timeline for how the gap formed. Exact layer labels, the output-standard reference and the metric names are SME-validation-pending - describe the layers, not invented figures.

How to read it

These are three different questions and must never be collapsed into one. Schedule-adherent means present and on-state; work-adherent means that time is going into work; output-adherent means the work meets standard. An agent can pass the first two and fail the third for legitimate reasons - harder work items, a process blocker, or an output standard that is not yet trusted. Below-output is a prompt to examine the work and the standard, not proof of low effort. Never let a customer read output adherence as a productivity score on a person.

Honest limits

The work layer is only as good as activity capture coverage, and the output layer only as good as the output standard behind it. On seeded demo data both are clean; for a real account, if capture is thin or the standard is not yet validated, these layers are directional, not definitive - say so plainly. Confirm with product which activity and output sources are wired and how the standard is derived. Do not present an output-adherence percentage as a substantiated performance metric.

Interpretation check

Schedule, work and output adherence are three different questions. An agent can be schedule-adherent and active while below the output standard for entirely legitimate reasons - below-output is a prompt to examine the work and the standard, never a productivity verdict on a person.

In the field

OVO (contact centre) and KnackGlobal (RCM): both hinge on effort-to-outcome - presence and activity are not the goal, work meeting standard is - which is exactly what these two layers measure and what a presence-only incumbent cannot.

Practical task

On the demo, find one agent or team green on schedule adherence but below on output, and write a 4-line read that keeps the three layers distinct, names the most likely legitimate cause, and states what you would validate (capture coverage or the standard) before treating it as a performance issue.

Self-check

Walk the difference between work adherence and output adherence in one line each.

Work adherence: is the scheduled time actually being spent on work. Output adherence: is that work meeting the expected standard for the interval. One is about effort going in, the other about results coming out.

An agent is green on schedule and work but red on output. Name two legitimate causes before you conclude underperformance.

Harder or more complex work items in that interval, or an output standard that is not yet trusted or correctly set. Also a process blocker upstream. Examine the work and the standard before judging the person.

Why is the output layer the wedge against an incumbent adherence tool?

Most incumbents prove only schedule adherence - presence and state. The work and output layers prove the presence turned into work at standard, which the incumbent usually cannot show. That is the question the business actually cares about.

Verified vs demo. Work and output adherence is live in the demo at /#/output on seeded data. Exact layer labels, the output-standard reference, metric names and the real activity/output sources and their coverage are SME-validation-pending; confirm with product.
